View of smoldering ruins of the Abbot Kinney Pier in Venice, California, which burned in a fire on December 20, 1920. The Captive airplane ride still stands at upper center of image.
"Pier at Venice totally destroyed by fire"--text, on item. "Dec 21, 1920"--text, handwritten in pencil on verso. Title transcribed from item; date transcribed from note on verso. One fireman lost his life. The fire was started on December 20, 1920, by a gas heater explosion in the Dance Pavilion. Account of the effects of the fire was transcribed from related item.
