A red car is passing on the street as pedestrians look through peep-holes at the on-going construction of the Statler Center. Cranes are hoisting girders to workers on the top floors. A banner on the girders proclaims "Steel Erected by Consolidated Western Steel Corporation". A sign on the construction fence advertises offices and shops for lease. Holabird, Root & Burgee of Chicago were the architects for the Statler Center which later became The Omni and then The Wilshire Grand Hotel. Photo caption reads: "Recent view shows progress on the $15,000,000 Statler Hotel. Companion piece to the hotel wil be an office building. Steel skeleton next year will become an ultra-modern hostelry, scheduled for completion and occupancy next year". Photo dated Dec. 25, 1950.
