Description
Photograph of a view of the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Ocean View Avenue, ca.1924. Cars are both parked along the street and making their way up and down along it while pedestrians traverse the sidewalk and cross the intersection. On the corner to the right, a woman in lightly-colored clothes stands waiting to cross, pushing a baby carriage. One- and two-story commercial buildings line the street to either side, along with utility poles. Legible signs from left to right include: "F.M. Hale Hardware. Paints & Oils -- Stoves. Kitchen Supplies", "The Wonder Shoe Store", "Linn's Grocery", "Lucky Strikes: Now I know toasting gives a flavor that has them all lashed to the mast!", "Limbeck's Restaurant", "Rexall Drugs. Soda", "Tires", "Maximo Bakery. Hot Lunches, Tobacco & Cigars", "Hospital", "Belvedere [...] Department Store", "Dr. Karl M. Walz. Dentist", "All Nite Drug Store", "Bramel & Graham Kodak Finishing", "Gardens Radio. Parts, Sets, Supplies", "Hume-Benson Land Co. Real Estate", "Harris Press Printing", "Laguna Furniture", "Don't Forget the Belvedere Gardens Community Industrial Fair. Oct. 28th 1924", "Your Jeweler", and "Dr. C.C. Palmore, Optometrist".
