Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Raymond Burr was born on May 21, 1917 in Canada. He had a varied career, working on Broadway, in radio, in films as a character and on television. He is best remembered for his TV roles in "Perry Mason" and "Ironside," winning two Emmy awards for his work in "Perry Mason." Burr was married once, but that union lasted less than four years. It was an "open secret" in Hollywood that Burr was gay and he lived with his partner, Robert Benevides, for nearly forty years. Burr was known for being a generous and kind person, giving to charities often and treating his fellow actors well. He died on September 12, 1993. Photograph caption dated April 17, 1962 reads "From left, John Resko, convicted murderer who did his paintings while in prison; actress Greta Thyssen, and Raymond Burr." The three are standing in front of a small portrait painting hanging on the wall.
