Not long after Joan Barry filed the first paternity suit against Chaplin, federal prosecutors brought Mann Act charges against Charlie Chaplin in relation to Barry; he was acquitted.
Photograph caption dated March 29, 1944 reads, "During a recess, Charlie Chaplin reads the news about his trial in the Evening Herald and Express and seems to be amused by a series of character studies showing his expressions while sitting in the courtroom." Photographs 00106910-00106914 are four of the six photographs included in the character study.
