Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated July 25, 1956 partially reads "Cove anchorage. U.S.S. Weeden, destroyer escort whose war-time mission is to protect fleet from submarine attack, lies at anchor in Paradise Cove off San Clemente Island. Its peacetime mission is to train Naval Reservists in ancient lore of seamanship. More than 60 Valley members of North Hollywood Navy Reserve unit recently completed week-end cruise from Long Beach harbor to barren and desolate San Clemente, boundary of huge Naval gunnery range. Citizen-sailors saw the Weeden come to life for firing of 20-mm. guns and dropping of depth charges." See images 00147469 through 00147473 for all photos in this series.
