Photograph caption dated December 21, 1964 reads "Two statues of Sabre-tooth Tigers fight unconcernedly as firemen probed the La Brea tar pits last night in search of a young woman believed to have taken her life by wading into the murky tar. Rain and slippery mud along the banks hampered their efforts."
