Image of the beach side view of the Arcadia Hotel and bath house as seen from the ocean in Santa Monica, California, with people standing on the beach.
"80 Santa Monica, Beach of Hotel Arcadia."--text, on item. "Los Angeles and Vicinity in Mid=Winter. Blanchard"--text, printed in front margin. Blanchard advertisement printed on verso: "Portrait, Viewing and Commercial Photography in all its Branches. ... J.B. Blanchard & Co., 715 North Main St., Los Angeles, Cal." Title transcribed from item; date devised by cataloger based on photographer history; J.B. Blanchard & Co. (James B. Blanchard & Charles C. Pierce) only appeared at the 715 N. Main Street address in the 1891 Los Angeles City Directory. The Arcadia Hotel was built next to a steep cliff and shows only 3 stories on the Ocean Avenue side (seen in related items) and 5 stories on the beach side. The hotel was completed in 1887 and demolished in 1909.
