Description
Well digging operation at Val Verde Park. Unique method of water development at Val Verde Park in Little San Martinez Canyon. Well is now producing in excess of 15 miners inches of water. In order to successfully go through a deposit of quick-sand, the Los Angeles County Forestry Department salvaged several lengths of 4' I.D. reinforced concrete pipe weighing approximately 4 tons each. The operation was in reality an open cassion job. With the exception of two men on the Forestry Department payroll, the work is being done with R.F.C. labor. Equipment consists of a home made tripod constructed of eucalyptus poles, a three inch centrifugal pump with 15 H.P motor. This being necessary to keep water down to enable ment to work in well. Note road in upper left which will terminate at the reservoir to be constructed on the highest point on the property.
