Munshi M. Tudu blev født 26.06.1924 i en landsby i Santalistan. Efter støtte til skolegang i Kaerabani og en periode som evangelist i Chondorpura, fik han stipendium til en 4-årig teologisk uddannelse i Ranchi, Jharkhand. Blev herefter sendt på videreuddannelse i USA - på Lutheran Theological Seminary i St Paul, Minnesota samt Biblical Seminary i New York. Efter hjemkomsten i 1956 var Munshi M. Tudu i 3 år lærer ved Santal Theological Seminary i Benagaria. Og i 1958 blev han valgt til den første indiske leder af NELC, fra 1972 med titel af biskop - i en kirke, der fortsat udviklede sig, også i retning af decentralisering. Fra 1984 blev der oprettet tre santalske stifter, et bengalsk og et borostift – med hver sin biskop og med Munshi M. Tudu som moderator/øverste leder af kirken, 1984-87 Munshi M. Munshi M. Tudu was born 26/06/1924 in a village of Santalistan. After support for attending school at Kaerabani and a period as evangelist at Chondorpura, he had scholarship for a 4-year theological education at Ranchi, Jharkhand. Later he was sent for further education in USA – at Lutheran Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota and Biblical Seminary in New York. Following return in 1956, Munshi M. Tudu served 3 years as teacher at the Santal Theological Seminary, Benagaria. And in 1958 he was elected as the first Indian leader of NELC, from 1972 with title of Bishop – in a Church continuously developing , also towards decentralization. From 1984 three Santal Dioceses, one Bengali and one Boro Diocese were founded – each with its own Bishop and with Munshi M. Tudu as Moderator/Supreme Leader of the Church, 1984-87.
