Description
Photograph of the Main Street in Riverside, California, looking north-east, ca.1905. Two sets of cable car tracks can be seen running into the distance along the unpaved street at center. To either side, commercial buildings of two or more stories can be seen behind the sidewalks, against which parked bicycles can be seen. To the right, two tall brick buildings can be seen among the commercial buildings, one with a clock tower, the other with what appears to be a bell tower topped by a cupola. Cable car wires make a net over the street. Legible signs from left to right include: "Soda water", "Gardner & Co. Druggists", "Newberry and Parke[...]", and "Boyer & Godfrey". The photograph is likely taken at the intersection of Main and 9th Streets looking north-east down the Main Street. Of all the buildings visible, the only one still standing (as of August 2014) is the Loring Building on the far left side with its distinctive pyramid-shaped roof. See also CHS-5247.
