Description
Barrio Expressions was a community access television show documenting Chicanx and Latinx life in the East San Francisco Bay Area. It ran on Hayward cable television from 1976-1985. While the shows were filmed primarily in the Hayward area, they include stories from around the East Bay and San Jose. The show aired weekly, with 26 episodes per year. These episodes contain segments on police harassment of the low rider/cruising community in Hayward and Newark, with footage of Newark City Council discussions; Tim Moreno and Joe Romero of La Raza Athletic Association talk about the softball and basketball leagues started in Oakland; footage of Cinco de Mayo activities around the Bay Area; editorial on the history of Latino immigration in the United States; Ricardo Cabrella of the Mission Community Alliance (MCA) of San Francisco presents a slide show on police stop and search since 1979 in San Francisco; Juan Espinosa editorial on Enrique Romero.
