James E. Davis, in office as the new Los Angeles Police Chief, has followed a colorful career of adventure. Davis was a cowpuncher, soldier, a farmer, sportsman, policeman, sharpshooter, and he is a "family man" with five children. View 1, photo at left, shows him with his first son, Edgar, who now is a grown boy. View 2, photo at right, shows Davis as a patrolman shortly after he joined the Los Angeles force in 1912 and began his climb from the ranks to head of the department.
