The rally occurred after the integration plan submitted by the Citizens Advisory Committee on School Integration (CACSI) to the Board of Education was drastically modified before its adoption. Brookins, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) West; Joyce Fisk, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Southern California president; Arturo Sanchez, president of Parents of Permit With Transfer (PWT) Students, East Los Angeles and writer for La Raza magazine, who addresses the crowd in Spanish; the Reverend James Lawson, activist and CACSI member; and the Reverend Al Tharch[sp?].
