Description
Highlights from the February 12th, 1977 March and Rally for Integration from Downtown Los Angeles to the Board of Education building to bring about a realistic integration program to Los Angeles schools. The rally occurred after the integration plan submitted by the Citizens Advisory Committee on School Integration (CACSI) to the Board of Education was drastically modified before its adoption. Speakers at the rally featured on this recording are Henry Dodson, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP); Diane Watson, Los Angeles Board of Education member; Los Angeles City Councilman Dave Cunningham; H.H. Brookins, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) West; Joyce Fisk, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Southern California president; Arturo Sanchez, president of Parents of Permit With Transfer (PWT) Students, East Los Angeles and writer for La Raza magazine, who addresses the crowd in Spanish; the Reverend James Lawson, activist and CACSI member; and the Reverend Al Tharch[sp?].
