Description
One of several riverboats lists afire in this Aug. 28, 1932, photograph. he fire started at 12:45 a.m. on the west bank of the Sacramento River. During the incident, riverside flora caught fire, priming flames to make their way toward the I Street Bridge which itself caught fire. Fire boats employed by Sacramento’s Fire Chief M.J. Dunphy were useless in stemming the portion of the fire on River Lines boats, pushing the Fire Department to focus on saving the I Street Bridge and keeping other craft out of danger.
