Photograph of a painted portrait of Hernando Cortes, conqueror of Mexico, [s.d.]. Cortes is shown from his waist to his head and is turned to the right. He is wearing ornately engraved armor. He has short dark hair swept back over his head and a thick dark beard and mustache. There is a plume behind him at left, and a curtain behind the feather. Cortes was born in Spain in 1485 and died December 2, 1547.
