Description
Photograph is oriented with north at the top of the photo. Printed along the left edge of the photo are "5-8-65", "65200" and "200". Approximately one inch below the top edge is Baseline Road which runs east-west. A tree-dotted Foothill Boulevard runs horizontally through the middle of the photograph. Just south of Foothill Blvd., to the left of center, are the Claremont Colleges with Harvey Mudd facing Foothill Blvd. and the newly constructed buildings of Pitzer College to the southeast. Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens are just northwest of the center of the photograph. Two major east-west lines in the bottom quarter of the photo are the Santa Fe and the Pacific Electric (later Southern Pacific) railroad tracks. They cross each other in the lower left quadrant with the Santa Fe tracks continuing east and the Pacific Electric tracks heading northeast. Starting east of the railroad track junction and running parallel to the Pacific Electric tracks on the north side is East 1st Street. Arrow Highway is the major east-west route below the railroad tracks. In the lower right corner, a small section of the Interstate 10 freeway is visible. Major north-south routes, from left to right, are Mountain Avenue, Indian Hill Avenue (with dog-leg), Mills Avenue (center), San Antonio Creek channel (running full length of photo) and Central Avenue (below Cable Airport). The Cable Airport runway is just east of the San Antonio Creek channel.
