Photograph of a massive bird coop covered in pigeons on a pigeon ranch on the Los Angeles River just past the Riverside bridge at the junction of Verdugo Road and San Fernando Boulevard, ca.1900. 20,000 pigeons are daily fed 1,500 pounds of grain under the care of a superintendant and three helpers who also dress 300 to 500 squabs each day for market. Many of the pigeons are either flying or are sitting on crates on the rocky ground at right. Trees are visible behind the scene.
