Description
Looking north on Main St. from Commercial St., about 1887. Commercial St. intersects where the sign for railroad tickets appears, on the right, on the Ducommun Building. The next building up the street is the St. Charles Hotel, formerly the Bella Union Hotel. The Grand Central Hotel is visible beyond, and then appears the magnificent Baker Block, marked by towers. In the distance is the Merced Theater, with a sign advertising furniture. The pole in the foreground is for street lighting.
