Manuscript by Charles Handy on future company changes and how they will resemble federations. Handy describes how federalism will be at the heart of the changes to organizations, a concept which combines both decentralization and centralization in a negotiated arrangement of operations. As a result of this new organizational arrangement and practice, Handy predicts that companies may start edging further away from shareholders in an attempt to give more emphasis to the long-term future of businesses. He concludes his analysis emphasizing that companies will need to undergo these changes because, if they don't treat their key people as partners and members in the organization, those employees will be free to treat the company as a stepping-stone to their own individual journeys.
