Description
Posing smartly in this 1940 photograph is Sacramento City Councilman Peter E. Mitchell. After serving with the council for nine years, the Sacramento native moved into state government, standing as President of the California Public Utilities Commission six times. His run with the PUB ended after the advent of the Ronald Reagan administration. Prior to his long odyssey in public service, Mitchell served as real estate agent and operated a gas station on Eighteenth and J Streets. He died in 1979.
