Description
This exhibit for the 1895 California State Fair was done by the Pacific Coast Borax Company. The display proclaims "Borax is King," "A Home Industry," and a presence "From Death Valley Mines to Alameda Factory." Borax, discovered in Death Valley in 1881, could be transformed into an effective laundering agent. The first reinforced concrete building constructed in the United States was the Pacific Coast Borax Company's refinery in Alameda, California, built in 1893.
