John Broesamle Interviews
John Broesamle is Professor Emeritus of History at California State University Northridge (CSUN) where he began teaching in 1968 and retired in 1998. CSUN commissioned Dr. Broesamle to write the first published history of the university in 1988. The resultant work was published in 1993 under the title, Suddenly a Giant: A History of California State University, Northridge. Among the sources used by Professor Broesamle were interviews he conducted with administrators, faculty members, and alumni between 1989 and 1991 that together provide various perspectives of the university ranging from its inception in 1957 to 1991.

Latina(o) Cultural Heritage Archives
A database featuring photographs and documents assembled from twelve collections of the Urban Archives of the CSUN University Library Special Collections and Archives. Funded as part of the Hispanics-Serving Institutions Grant of the State of California, these materials capture the history of Latino and Chicana/o people and culture in Southern California. These collections feature the arts, labor and immigration as important parts of the historical fabric of this community.

Northridge Earthquake Photo Collection
The Northridge Earthquake Photo Collection contains a series of photographs taken by Geography Department staff members in the days and months after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Northridge was the epicenter of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the early morning of January 17, 1994 killing dozens of people and damaging numerous structures and freeways throughout southern California. Former Geography Department Map Curator, Michael Swift, and Assistant Map Curator, Kris Tacsik, took photos on the CSUN campus and surrounding communities of Northridge, Granada Hills, and Reseda in the days and weeks after the earthquake. Old China Hands Oral History Project Collection
The Old China Hands Oral History Project contains audio interviews with "Old China Hands," foreigners who lived and worked in China before or shortly after the Communist takeover of China in 1949. Interview topics include daily life in China, impressions of local culture and business, and experiences related to World War II such as the Japanese occupation and internment of Allied country citizens residing in China. Many of the interviews were recorded at Old China Hands reunions, beginning with the 1996 reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Poor Housing Conditions in Los Angeles Scrapbook
California’s population grew exponentially in the 1930s, more than doubling from 3.4 million in 1920 to 6.9 million in 1940. In Los Angeles, this growth in population was mainly migrant workers and caused the city to undergo rapid urbanization. However, the Great Depression was ongoing, and 1938 was one of the most economically devastating years. In 1938 the Los Angeles Bureau of Housing and Sanitation made a report, under the direction of M.S. Richard Bruland Bebop Records Art Posters Collection
This unique collection of alternative music, poetry and exhibit posters documents the performances at the now defunct Bebop Records & Fine Art in Reseda. Signaling the rise of independent labels, bands such as Los Lobos, Jane's Addiciton, Minutemen, Del Rubio Triplets, Sam I am, Nels Cline Trio and spoken-word artists as Henry Rollins, Xene Cervenka, and many others have taken the stage at this iconic venue. Using exisiting and donated materials from the performers, artist Richard Bruland created original posters for each evening's performances.

Richard Cross Photographs (Bradley Center)
Richard Cross (1950–1983) earned a degree in magazine journalism from Northwestern University in 1972. After he finished college, he began his career as a photographer at the Daily Globe in Worthington, Minnesota, where he worked until 1973. Cross spent four years (1974–1978) as a volunteer in Bogotá, Colombia, working as a photographer and audio-visual consultant for the Peace Corp’s Agricultural Communications program.
