Description
A black and white medium shot of many horses in the foreground waiting to board a ship to Cuba. The ships are lined up on the left side of the image while the center and right side of the image is filled with horses.
The "Heroes" of war shown in the image are horses. Lead by Theodore Roosevelt, the "Rough Riders" were an elite group of cavalry known for their shooting and riding abilities. It is unlikely that the Rough Riders would have been so successful at the battle of San Juan Hill without the aid of their horses.
