The Sun Sketches of San Mateo album contains 25 photographic prints taken by Carleton E. Watkins in 1875 featuring views of early San Mateo County. Especially featured is the Baywood residence and estate of financier John Parrott, built in 1868 on what was previously the Rancho de las Pulgas. Also pictured are the Fair Oaks and El Cerrito residences, owned by W.D.M. Howard and Thomas H. Selby, respectively; St. Matthews Church; the first hotel of San Mateo; El Camino Real; Crystal Springs Road; San Mateo Creek; Crystal Springs Valley; and a view of the town of San Mateo. Watkins (Carleton E.) Views of San Francisco, Yosemite, and Monterey, ca. 1876 - ca. 1890
This collection consists of 16 albumen prints taken by Carleton E. Watkins, circa 1876-circa 1890. The photographs are part of "Watkins' New Boudoir Series Yo Semite and Pacific Coast." The collection consists primarily of architectural views of the San Francisco area, including the residences of Charles Crocker, Mrs. Mark Hopkins, and Leland Stanford. Other San Francisco views include the Palace Hotel, the Cliff House, Montgomery Street, Bay View, and Golden Gate Park. The collection includes four views of missions: Mission San Luis Rey, San Gabriel Mission, and Mission San Luis Obispo in California; and, Mission San Xavier in Arizona. One …

Watson (Raymond L.) papers
Raymond L. Watson (1926-2012) was an architect and planner and former President and CEO of The Irvine Company. Included in this collection are electronic word-processing files, created between 1992 and 2010, and digitized slides, created in 1996 and 1997. The born digital files were received via email and converted to PDF format in order to facilitate preservation and access. The digitized slides were received on five photographic CDs and were converted into JPEGs, also to facilitate preservation and access. Watts riots records, 1965
The collection consists of the report published by the governor's commission following the Los Angeles civil unrest of 1965, also known as the Watts Riots, and the supporting documentation. The report itself is titled, "Violence in the City—An End or a Beginning?: A Report by the Governor's Commission on the Los Angeles Riots, 1965". While the additional documents are primarily transcripts of testimony, the testimonies come from a wide range of people directly and indirectly involved in the civil unrest, including Governor Pat Brown, Lieutenant Governor Glen Anderson, several leaders of the Los Angeles Police Department and National Guard, some …

Watts (William M.) Papers
William M. Watts (1885-1980) was born on February 15, 1885 in Lodi, Texas to Perry and Jane Watts. After earning a medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, Watts practiced medicine at hospitals in Houston, Texas and Fresno, California before opening the first hospital for African Americans in Oakland, California in 1926 at 3437 Harlan Street in North Oakland. The William M. Watts papers include photographs, patient and account ledger, license applications, newspapers clippings, funeral program, and one edition of the Jackson County Medical Journal.

Wax (Rosalie H.) Papers
Consists chiefly of a 1981-1982 revision of her Tule Lake field notes, written for the Japanese American Evacuation and Resettlement Study in 1944-1945, while Wax was at the Relocation Center near Newell, Calif. The revision, funded by a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation, includes a first and final draft, plus interviews conducted in 1981-1982 with former internees at Tule Lake, and longitudinal oral histories (Wax's term) created from the field notes and interviews. Additional material includes drafts of an unpublished book, articles and papers based on the revision, correspondence regarding the revision, and miscellaneous writings by internees and other researchers …
