The Sonoma County Library, through its Sonoma Heritage Collections, seeks out, acquires and makes digitally accessible, materials in all formats to illuminate Sonoma County history and culture. The Sonoma Heritage Collection builds on the extensive collection of historical photographs gathered in the the Library's History & Genealogy Library, Petaluma History Room and Sonoma County Wine Library, as well as archival collections located in the Sonoma County Archives. We have collaborated with a number of Sonoma County organizations including the Sonoma Valley Historical Society, the Western Sonoma County Historical Society and the Sonoma County Fair to broaden our offerings. The Sonoma Heritage Collections includes a number of current and planned, unique collections ranging from historical photographs to Sonoma County wine labels, and from architectural drawings to winemaker oral histories.

Speaking of Wine
Speaking of Wine presents recordings and transcripts of interviews with winemakers, growers, and other notable figures in the Sonoma County wine industry from the early 1970s to the present. Transcripts have been published as part of the Wine Library Associates of Sonoma County and conducted by William Heintz, Carole Hicke and others.

Western Sonoma County Historic Resources Survey
The Final Report of the 1981 Historic Resources Survey presents the findings of the Western Sonoma County Historic Resource Survey team's comprehensive visual assessment of historic resources in coastal and western Sonoma County, as well as the City of Sebastopol, excluding prehistoric or archaeological data. This survey presents a well-balanced collection of resources from throughout the map areas, showcasing various activities that have taken place since the 1830s. It includes landmarks, farm units, the rural narrow-gauge railroad, towns of different sizes, and remnants of various structures representing human involvement in the area's growth between 1850 and 1940.

William Nicholas Connolly scrapbook, 1905-1969 (SPC.00133)
Scrapbook compiled by William Nicholas "Will" Connolly (1905-1987), containing photographs taken between 1905 and approximately 1955 and some newspaper clippings. The vast majority of the photos date from 1912 through 1922 and show Will Connolly, his family, and his friends. Most of the photographs were taken around his hometown of Petaluma and in other Sonoma County locations, including Rio Nido and the Russian River. The scrapbook also contains photos were taken in Marin County and feature images of Dillon Beach, Muir Woods, and Mount Tamalpais--including the Mount Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railway.
