Negatives from the Peoples Temple Publications Department
The negatives series documents the Temple's activities from the sixties through the seventies (with the overwhelming majority covering the years 1976-1977, including Temple bus trips, services, protests, and the early life of Jonestown). This series has several potential applications for the researcher. It documents the Department's extremely prolific photography, as well as what its staff found significant or aesthetically appealing about the Temple -- which was often the personal and intimate side of church life. In these photographs, members relax at bus trip rest stops, Guyanese orchids bloom, cats and dogs relax on the floor, and people smile from portraits. …

Images of men, horses, and cattle at Rancho Santa Anita (Hollister Ranch) in the San Gabriel River Valley, Calif. Identified men include: George Coles, Pedro Romero, Billy Hollister, Bayard Thayer, Choreta Cota, Frank Stoddard, Joe Carmen, Pierre Lorillard, Herado Gutierrez, Dick McCreery, Hermie Suryes, Joe Bravo, and Housto. Contains images of men roping cattle, and rancho buildings. One photo identified as El Roblar Rancho in Los Alamos (Santa Barbara County, Calif.). There are two photos of painter Charles Rollo Peters' studio; one photo shows Peters at his desk. Includes a photo of a crucifixion painting by Peters.

Photographs of the Alameda County salt industry
Part of the California Counties Photography Collection, this selection of photographs of several salt works in Alameda County includes images photographed and/or compiled by Charles A. Plummer, who along with his father John and brother John Jr., became a leading salt manufacturer in Alameda County in the latter part of the 19th century. In 1868, near Alvarado at the mouth of Alameda Creek, the Plummers established the Turk Island Salt Works, which by 1878 was the second largest salt operation in Washington Township, one of the county’s six principalities. The Slides series contains assorted slides created by the Peoples Temple Publications Department, mainly in the mid- to late 1970s. They document Temple activities such as bus trips, protests, and the building of Jonestown. William Hammond Hall collection of photographs on irrigation and hydrology in California
Consists of photographs depicting irrigation and water projects throughout California and other western locations collected by William Hammond Hall. The photographs were probably collected while Hall acted as California's first State Engineer (1878-1888) and while he worked in the private sector as a civil engineer. The photographs span the years 1868 to 1917 and depict various water projects throughout California.
