Thudicum discusses viticultural issues and principles in the first four chapters, wine making in chapters five through eleven, and then wines from specific geographical areas including Asia, Africa, Australia and the United States. According to Gabler, "Andre Simon in commenting on this edition noted: 'Most of the scientific data contained inthe 1872 edition have been omitted, but the majority of the errors have been retained. It lacks the thoroughness of the earlier work...'"
