Description
Republican mural, Divis Street, West Belfast, 2016. The International Wall; a representation of the history of Irish Republicanism (as at July 2016 - unfinished), beginning with founding figures: Wolfe Tone; Betsy Gray, Henry Joy McCracken; Mary Anne McCracken; Robert Emmett; Anna Wheeler; James Fintan Lalor; Thomas Davis; John Mitchel; Michael Davitt; John Devoy; then moving to formation of Ulster Volunteers (Larne gun running) and Irish Volunteers (the figure of Carson has been defaced - a sign of the contentiousness of this image in this location); then Howth gun running, with Nora Connolly; Ethna Carbery, Alice Milligan, the Corr sisters, and James Connolly - nationalism and socialism; Seán MacDiarmada talking in Clonard; Eoin MacNeill's 'The North Began'; Irish volunteers in Divis.
