Description
An audience watches as City Clerk Naomi Putnam swears in city officials at Burbank City Hall, May 1, 1953. Getting sworn in are, left to right: Ralph Simpson (Board of Education), P. Fred Johnson (Board of Education), Walter Hinton (City Treasurer), Carl M. King (Council), H. B. “Jerry” Bank (Council), and Earle C. Blais (Council). Naomi Putnam had been sworn in as the new City Clerk earlier in the day by outgoing City Clerk Addie Jones. Each official is wearing a red carnation, according to the Burbank Daily Review. A vote was taken immediately following the swearing in ceremony, in which City Council chose King as mayor and Blais as vice mayor. "City of Burbank, CA Official Photo #298"--back of photo.
