Title supplied by cataloger. Anastasio Somoza Debayle (1925-1980) was a Nicaraguan leader and President of Nicaragua from 1967-1972 and then again from 1974-1979. As head of the National Guard, he was ruler of the country from 1967-1979. He was the last member of the Somoza family to be President, ending a dynasty that had been in power since 1936. After being overthrown in an insurrection, he fled Nicaragua in exile. He was assassinated in 1980 while in exile in Paraguay. Photograph caption dated June 24, 1979 reads, "Anti-Somoza signs propped up near the intersection of Hollywood and Vine."
