Making counts of germination in the germination test bed. This contains rows of various species and lots on hand in the station. The germination is counted every other day and tallied. Each row is an experiment and the number of seeds germinating each day is marked and the seed pulled up. There are 200 seeds in each row. These beds are planted as a check on the plat tests of the same seeds in the greenhouse. These beds are mixed same as the other beds with 1/2" of sand on top to prevent baking. Mitchell finds that California seed will string along through the summer and some even hold over to the second year while seed from other districts has all germinated within three weeks and stopped. Beds are covered with burlap on the ground and frames on top. Are watered every night. This is the 62nd day of the test. Feather River Experiment Station, Plumas County
