Proposal by Charles Handy for his "Lessons in Management" book. Handy begins the proposal discussing traditional management books and how most of these publications are about American businesses, with some influence from Japanese practices. He proceeds to note that this situation has created a need and ready market for a British book on the subject which examines proven success records in management, is properly conceptual and interpretative, and is directed at practicing managers. Handy goes on to talk about the structure of the forthcoming book and how it would need to span ten categories of organizations, five of which would be in the business sector, and, if space and time permit it, how it would be desirable to include two well-known examples in each category. He then lists key concepts the book would explore, the presentation of the findings, and the timeframe in which he would work to complete the manuscript.
