Description: Image of a certificate of membership for a temperance association; a man is urged to sign a pledge of sobriety by his wife and child who stand with him; two men offer him the quill pen and document to sign at left; fountain and well-kept garden grounds outside window above the table at center; certificate text at bottom center.
"Sinclair Lithr. Phila."--text, bottom center of image. "A Certificate of Membership for Temperance Societies. Published by James Porter. Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1841, by James Porter, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pa."--text, bottom center margin.
