Description
Native American chiefs who visited the home of John Collier at 45 Coronet Avenue, Mill Valley. John Collier, who maintained a home in the Blithedale Canyon from 1923 -1933, was Executive Secretary of the American Indian Defense Association. From 1933 -1945 he held the post of U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs in Washington DC. According to a December 1934 Mill Valley Record newspaper article, 10 years back, Collier had assembled a group of leading members of the tribes of the southwest, made them his guests in Mill Valley and introduced them to audiences in San Francisco and other California cities.
