Young Veronica is seen here at a summer pool party in a San Pedro backyard, three other children play behind her in the pool. San Pedro is a community within Los Angeles that was annexed in 1909 and is a major seaport of the area. It has grown from being dominated by the fishing industry to becoming primarily a blue-collar working town. With its location on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, San Pedro has a mild climate with no extremes in temperature. Balmy breezes keep the skies clear and smog free with an average temperature of 62.1 in the daytime, and usually 10-15 degrees cooler at night. There are approximately 70-75 summer days and 60-65 winter days each year. Photograph dated September 2000.
