San Joaquin Experimental Range. Taken after the first rains and the start of new growth. Old growth never shows as well on the ground after rains have come and new growth has started. The rains beat the old growth down to some extent and the new forage obscures much of it. This point should be remembered and considered when range examinations are being made. Compare with photograph No. 387980 taken before the rains started.
