Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Howard P. Courtney was born in Frederick, Oklahoma in 1911. He became associated with Aimee Semple McPherson and the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He attended the church's college in Los Angeles and graduated in 1932. From 1944 to 1950 Dr. Courtney became Supervising Director of Foreign Missions and later held several important posts within the Church and published several theological works. He died in 2001. Photograph caption dated October 15, 1947 reads "Dr. Howard P. Courtney, General Field supervisor and Director of Foreign Missions for the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, is shown upon his return here this afternoon (Oct. 15th) from an extensive mission survey conducted during the past three months in Portugal, North and South Africa, and South America." Courtney is shown exiting an airplane.
