Photograph article dated September 7, 1963 partially reads, "Orators in Los Angeles' Pershing Square climbed atop a common soapbox Friday and loudly denounced a $100,000 park beautification project which they say would deny them the right to continue their speeches. Several hundred Pershing Square regulars said they would march from the square to City Hall next Thursday at 10 a.m. to attend a city Recreation and Park Commission hearing to protest the project." Gray, left, says he'll fight the Square beautification. He and his group soapboxed Friday to plan City Hall march.
