Description
A weathered sign hangs over 205 J St. in this 1959 photo, reading, "Jack Zim, 1 Man Alaska Bargain Store." The entry door is open and two men appear to be engaged in conversation just outside. Lettering on the windows shows that the store sells tents, camping equipment and cooking utensils, and that new and used quilts, blankets, pots, pans and dishes are bought and sold. On either side are two-story buildings. At 209 J St., records show occupancy by the Bethesda Christian Center. Several automobiles are parked at the curb.
