Black and white lantern slide featuring the ruined brick house of an unnamed rich hindu gentleman, destroyed in an earthquake in 1934. There is substantial damage to the front columns and roof of the house. The earthquake in Bihar on 15 January 1934 was one of the worst in the history of India. Around 30 000 people were believed to have died in the tragedy. The epicentre of the earthquake was in eastern Nepal. The caption to the slide reads: "House of a rich Hindu in Motihari. Destroyed in the earthquake. Jan [uar] y 1934." This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
