Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Photograph caption dated March 9, 1956 reads, "Dixie Griffin, 17, of San Fernando has set her sights on the 1956 Olympiad in Melbourne, Australia, and is rated by some critics as the first Los Angeles feminine athlete with a chance to make the American women's track and field team since 1932. The last local track lass to be in the Olympics was Lillian Copeland, who won the 1932 discus throw. Dixie, an all-around star, is best in the javelin and also is shown tossing the shot."
