Seventy-Foot Christmas Tree ...Long Beach ...Handless Korean Veteran at Lot Where He Will Open Christmas Sales Tree Was Decorated By Members of Local 11, Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, American Federation of Labor, 11 November 1951. Michael J. Ropczycki, Junior. Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Emery. Date: 11-10-51. Reporter: Emery to RW. Assignment: Handless vet's 70-foot Christmas tree. 32/33: Michael J. Ropczycki, Jr., Long Beach handless veteran of Korean war, stands left foreground pointing to 70-foot pine tree at 3837 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, where he will open his Christmas tree sales lot on Dec. 1. Under tree are some of 17 members of Unit 2, Local 11, Intl. Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL who pitched in 'for free' and put 250 lights on tree, 180 more around lot, setting out 3000 feet of wire-- 'to lend a hand to a swell guy'".
