Photograph article dated October 24, 1963 partially reads, "A month before Walt Disney opened his Magic Kingdom, in 1955, he led a dozen newspaper people on a guided tour of his dream-coming-true. With a boyishly happy grin and his eyes literally dancing, the creator of Happyland demanded we ignore the remaining sandhills, scaffolding, trucks and bulldozers... A preposterous $17 million went into the conversion of an Anaheim orange grove into a five-land wonderland. It took every cent Mickey Mouse and Pluto had earned; and all Cinderella could borrow. With anything less than the ambition, determination, personality and absolute magic of Walt Disney, it might have been history's most colorful catastrophe. Eight years and 38 million visitors later, Disneyland remains pre-eminent and unique, world famous and successful - and less than an hour's drive from the Valley."
