Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated July 31, 1963 reads "The Verdugo Hills Gem and Mineral Society recently won first place at the 24th annual convention and show at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, San Jose. Shown with their prize-winning entry, 'The Great Seal of the United States,' are Frances Brem, welfare chairman of the society, and Howard Houston, president. The seal is made entirely of gemstones and took 50 people two months to complete. It won the perpetual plaque and a special award ribbon in addition to the first-place ribbon."
