Description
View 1 (2017-0063). Dad Lee's. Shows Dirty Rose Hotel, Dad Lee in front. Signs read "The days of '63, Dirty Rose Hotel" and "Home of the long line skinner." Advertising signs for Old Gold Cigarettes and Blatz Old Heidelberg Beer -- view 2 (2017-0061). Dad Lee. Shows Lee beside dice table ("First dice table in the state"). Has anvil, saddle on stand -- view 3 (2017-0062). Dad Lees'. Shows Lee Center. Tipis with signs - Greasewood Mary, Fortune teller Wednesdays. Old wagon (covered wagon?) on right. Birdhouse and sign "Dad Lee King of the West" on post.
C. M. "Dad" Lee was born around 1847. Came West in the early 1870's, residing in California for some years, in 1920's ran service station on road between Oreana and Rochester Canyon in Pershing County, Nevada. Built replica of old-time trading post, collecting artifacts for display. Around 1929, moved his operation to spot northeast of Lovelock on Victory Highway, called it Lee Center. Died in 1934.
