Exterior view of the new Women's Gymnasium at U.C.L.A. in 1939. The Men's and Women's Gymnasiums were the only major structures built on the campus with New Deal federal money during the Depression. The politically conservative Board of Regents did not take advantage of the new federal largesse as did many other colleges. Building was built in 1932 in a Romanesque Revival style, with streamlined details. Designed by Allison and Allison, Architects. Photo dated: May 5, 1939.
