Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Mission San Jose de Gaudalupe looking from the west, taken by photographer Edward Vischer, ca.1865-1875. A hitching post for horses stands in the foreground in front of the picket fence that surrounds the mission's two-story main building, whose exterior whitewash is chipping. The building features a modest door, above which a narrow, barred window is situated, to the right of the building's internal bell tower, which is included under the building's roof. More doorways are visible on the left broad side of the building, the most central of which is arched. A regular wooden building is partially visible to the right behind the mission. Mountains can be seen in the distance. The road out front is unpaved.
