Description
A group of men wearing colorful clothing waiting in a long line to vote on March 7, 1982. They are all wearing hats. Some of the men are looking into the inside of the building. On the sides of the building entrance are two advertisements for Casino cigarettes which read, "The most mild and tasty." The Guatemalan government required every literate person over the age of eighteen to vote or pay a fine. They were told that they would be killed if they did not vote. Groups of Mayan men started lining up to vote at five in the morning. Un grupo de hombres vestidos con ropa colorida esperan en una larga fila para votar el 7 de marzo de 1982. Todos llevan sombrero. Varios de los hombres ven hacia el interior del edificio. Sobre los costados de la entrada del edificio se observan dos anuncios dando publicidad a los cigarrillos marca Casino. Los anuncios leen "El más suave y sabroso." El gobierno guatemalteco exigió que todas las personas alfabetizadas mayores de dieciocho años votaran o pagarían una multa.
