Photograph was edited for publication purposes Henry Salvatori was born in Italy in 1901. He arrived in the United States in 1908 with his family and earned a master's degree in physics from Columbia University in 1926. In 1933 he founded Western Geophysical, a company that used reflection seismology to explore for petroleum. The company prospered and was sold by Salvatori to Litton Industries in 1960. Later in life Salvatori became a philanthropist and conservative political activist, supporting Richard M. Nixon, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, and becoming campaign manager for Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty. Salvatori and his wife made significant contributions to civic and educational institutions. He died in 1997.; The Research Institute on Communist Strategy and Propaganda eventually became the registration building for the University of Southern California. In 2014 the building was razed. In its place the Jill and Frank Fertitta Hall was built and dedicated in June 2016. Photograph caption dated September 14, 1963 reads "Henry Salvatoria (sic), who donated $325,000 for the establishment of a Communist research institute addresses dedication ceremonies." The article partially reads "The site of a new building to house the Research Institute on Communist Strategy and Propaganda was dedicated at USC Friday."
